Helen Keller — inspiration to generations and inspiration for an entire genre of schoolyard humor — and her teacher and friend Anne Sullivan in a clip from 1930 in which they describe the way in which Helen learned how to speak … It’s a fascinating little clip which pays homage to a woman who, even beyond her amazing circumstances, was a radical socialist, suffragist, and supporter of birth control, who was friends with the likes of Mark Twain and who worked tirelessly to champion the rights of both the downtrodden and the physically disabled.

Disabled People Dating Other Disabled People
Posted on September 21st, 2007 1 commentI don’t understand why people seem to think that disabled people should, want, or need, to date other disabled people. However, they do. I wonder if the author of the article called Disabled and Dating: a Step by Step Guide is herself disabled? I doubt it. I’m not going to start into how extremely useless the article is: all the advice it gives is universal, and it doesn’t offer even one specific tip. I rather wonder why on earth an article like this needs to be written in the first place?
